Podcast

Hey,

So, for Assignment 4, I created a podcast on Podomatic.com. I found this website to be very easy to use. To complete this project, I recorded my audio message on a digital recorder that I checked out from the CRC in the School of Education on the 1st floor. I then upload the audio clips onto a computer using the downloaded software that came with the digital recorder. Then, I registered myself on Podomatic.com and created an account. After that, I uploaded the audio sound bytes onto the website. I found the overall process rather quick and easy once I got my audio information onto the computer. I had a bit of trouble getting the audio onto the computer because I had to download the software onto a computer so that I could save the audio clips on my flash drive. But once I did all of that, using the Podomatic website was super easy.
My suggestion for anybody who plans on creating/using podcasts in the future is to create an account on Podomatic and use this website to post your podcasts. The format of the website is easy to follow and the steps to upload your podcasts are clearly outlined.
Below, you will find a link that you can click on to hear my podcasts. The topic for my podcasts is "Spotlight on Black Businesses". In this podcast mini-series, I interviewed an African American business owner. His name is Judge Smith, he owns a restaurant called Judge's Tip of the Rib on West Michigan Street. It is located very close to the IUPUI campus.

Emergent Technology Part # 3

Hey Everybody,

Finally, the last part of the Emergent Technology Series. This last Emergent Technology project was by far the most challenging one. This was the first time that I ever created my own podcast and I had actually only listened to two podcasts for my P.E. class this semester. So, I did not know a lot about podcasting prior to this project. There is still a lot to learn, but I definitely know more than I knew before I started. My podcast topic was to record an interview with an African-American business owner in Indy about what it's like to be a business owner and the joys and perils of entrepreneurship.

My advice for other podcasters is to take your time, don't start the project at the last minute, pick a topic that you like and want to talk about, and have fun. For the project, I pretended that  I had my own radio show and was actually recording for a real audience. I had a hard time completing the project because this was the first time that I had ever used this technology before and I didn't know what I was doing. But for the project, I used Podomatic, which is a really good site for podcasting and vodcasting. I found it to be very user-friendly.

I can see many times when I can see myself using podcasting. For example, I can record myself reading storybooks, so in case I am sick, my students can still listen to me read stories to them. Or I can use the podcasting as a way to record my thoughts and experiences as a teacher. This is sorta like an auditory journal or diary. Also, as I mentioned earlier, my P.E. professor used podcasts as extra ways to teach his students about physical education topics outside of the classroom.

Emergent Technology Part 2

Hey Everybody,

So I created a survey using the website Survs. It was pretty cool. It makes creating surveys really easy. The templates that you can choose from already come with generated questions. And you can easily distribute the survey online and save paper. Also, you can use the website to analyze the results of the survey questionnaires. All in all, I like this website and encourage you to try it sometime. I know that in my Public Speaking class that I took last semester, we were required to create surveys in order to analyze our audience members. This would have been a great tool to use. maybe you can use it other classes that you have or will have.

Talk to you later,

Nouri M.

Using RSS

Hello,

So today, I used RSS Feeds for the first time. This is basically a website that makes keeping track of your favorite websites and news extremely easy.
I looked through my feeds and I like what I see. I found the information to be helpful and interesting.
I think that I will keep track of this feed and update and check it regularly.
This website provided me with more than I originally expected it to. It is a really cool website. Before I enrolled in my W200 class, I did not know about this website. But, I am very glad that I found out about it.

Talk to you later,

Nouri McLucas

Nouri's Adventure in Bookmarking on Delicious

Hey guys,

So I completed another assignment for my W200 (Using Computers in the Classroom) online course. Using this website was pretty easy. I like the idea of having a place to store relevant and important websites. Here is link to my page of saved websites. I encourage all college students to sign up on this website and store their information. I really believe that I will be using this website in the future with other college classes.

Sincerely,

Nouri M.

My PhotoShow Creation

Here is a link to the slideshow that I created on Photoshow. I think that it's really cool!

Emergent Technology Part 1

Hey Guys,

So I used Roxio PhotoShow for the very first time. This is a really cool website.

Basically, this website was designed to make sharing photos more enjoyable. It was also designed to make sharing photos easier than perhaps creating a scrapbook. Scrap booking is fun; however, it can take a lot of time, money, and materials to make a really cool looking photo book. Photoshow greatly simplifies this process. It also gives people the option to make a DVD of their photo slide show. Also, Photoshow allows many different types of people to share photos. For example, I don't think that many guys would be into scrap booking. But, they would be into using this website.

I learned about this technology from my instructor. She gave the class many options to choose from for this first assignment. I chose this option because I had never used this product before. I found the website extremely user-friendly and easy to navigate. I had no problems at all when I was uploading my pictures, choosing a layout for the slide show, and choosing other cool features. I think that anybody who takes photos with a camera can benefit from using this technology. I found it extremely useful. And as a paid member on the website, there are many more options to choose from. For example, members can choose from hundreds of layouts, they can put in their own music, and they can also add in many more pictures to their slide shows.

As far as tips and suggestions are concerned,  my best advice is to have fun and experiment with the website's technology. I also would suggest becoming a paid member. I am considering this option for myself. Using this website has encouraged me to get back into photography.
